Terrain

Brecon is a market town centered on the river Usk. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brecon Whilst there has been a Dave Peel 1:5000 Urban map in existence since 2005, there have not been any urban orienteering events other than the one or two infrequent local level events. The old map is not available online.

A brand new map to ISSprOM 2019 has been drawn for this event by Mitchell Maps.

The majority of the senior courses are on hard surfaces centered in and around Brecon Town Centre. Please do not use ‘dob spikes’; road trainers are the recommended footwear.  The junior courses have a mix of grass and pavement surfaces suitable for rubber studs.

Safety

As with all town centre urban/sprint events, it is imperative that competitors check both ways before crossing roads and refrain from running at speed around blind corners. Brecon town centre can be busy with pedestrians; please give way to the general public. Cross all roads with care and give way to the general public. Water courses (rivers) are out of bounds and must only be crossed by the bridges shown on the map.

Competitors returning from their respective courses will use the same access gate from the college as those walking to the start. This includes a narrow pavement across the bridge which will also be shared with the general public. Please keep to the right, both on the bridge and when walking out of the main entrance to the college, and give way to pedestrians and runners.

Courses 1-3 will encounter pedestrian gates that may appear closed (they are unlocked during the competition).  Please open and close with care and avoid slamming the gates. More detail will be available in the start lane.

Bibs

Advised but not compulsory.
