Model Event - Mynydd Llangatwg

Overview

The Model event will allow Croeso competitors to experience the terrain representative of the areas for Days 2 - 6. The event is a fundraising opportunity for the Welsh Junior squad and your attendance will be very welcomed.

Directions

From Brecon, exit East onto the A40, after approx. 6 miles turn right signed for Talybont-on-Usk, at the T-junction turn left onto the B4558 towards Llangynidr. Travel through Llangynidr, after 11 miles turn right onto the B4560 signed for Beaufort, continue on the B4560 for 2.5 miles to the car park on the right. This route avoids the bridge crossing described below. Travel distance is approximately 13.5 miles/25 minutes from Brecon. Parking will be in a small car park and will be signed on approach from the North and South with additional parking alongside the road. IMPORTANT: If travelling to the model event through LLangynidr via the A40 and B4560 you will have to cross a narrow bridge, only vehicles less than 2.1m can fit across the bridge and there are NO turning points. If travelling in a large motorhome avoid the Llangynidr bridge crossing. Cars are ok to cross the bridge, but you cross at your own peril, it is narrow! When travelling from the Model event to Brecon follow the instructions above in reverse.

Terrain

An interesting mix of crags, broken limestone pavement, shake holes, and disused quarry workings. It is very runnable, but there are patches of bracken. The area is split by the B4560, with control sites on both sides of the road. Competitors may cross the road at any point but please stop and check for traffic movement before crossing the road.

Start & Finish

The start and finish are located in the car park. No results will be produced. Start window is 10:30 to 16:00. Model event closes at 17:30.

Facilities

Portable toilet in the car park. A pizza van is usually present in the car park servicing the public, the Welsh Junior Orienteering squad will have a cake stall where contributions are welcome.

Courses

An all controls map will be available based on your pre-entry on Fabian4 and you are free to visit any controls in any order. SportIdent will not be used.

Suggested 2km, 4km and 6km routes will be available.
